Early Bird

While another blog basks in the glow, getting credit for the breaking stories about the ARES 1 problems appearing in newspapers across the country today, readers of R&S know you read it here first, months before NW knew a problem existed.

While the rest of us are pissed it took them so long to figure it out.

They were some of the biggest cheerleaders for this disaster.

Now NASA moves full steam ahead with the COTS reinvention of the Delta II.

Both sites and others deserve credit. Without insider blogs like rocketsandsuch, these technical issues might remain buried in the bureaucracy and never see the public light of day. But without press sites like NASAWatch or nasaspaceflight, hard questions could not be put to PAO in a way that gives the original allegations credence in the wider press. The AP or NY Times can't report on allegations in anonymous blog entries, but they can report on sketchy Q&A from NASA PAO. Both types of sites are necessary.

Yes, this is a great blog. But isn't it "Ares I" with a Roman numeral, rather than "Ares 1?"

Space's comments had it exactly right. You're doing a great job, but at The Associated Press, we can't use anonymous posts for anything but tips to follow up on. But I do read you and you or anyone else can e-mail me at sborenstein@ap.org and if I know who you are and why you're seeking anonymity we can work something out.

If you can't figure out what the hell is going on at NASA and NOAA, just from a casual search on the internet, then nothing in the form of tips from US is going to help you that overly much.

Bush and his cronies, Griffin and Lautenbacher, Marburger and company have DECIMATED science in America. It's about time YOU shaped up, we've all been doing are jobs exposing this corruption here for many many years running now.

KT, don't be too hard on the boy, at least he's trying, or he wouldn't be here. There's not a press release in sight.

Slightly off topic, I wonder what R&S has to say about the Emporer's BS speech.

Admittedly, the self-agrandizing comments were out of form. As we are able to surface issues of interest to space program supporters, we can do only that, bringing the problems to the light of day. Its up to you to take the hints, ask questions, and publicize these responses, much as NW did, so that they might be solved.

Actually, I don't see how any of US are doing such a great job. What is going to change this year? Nothing.

It's business as usual.

Another year.
